Goreme Panorama
The most magnificent landscape around Göreme has been formed from its solidified lava streams, its ash and tuff stone, all dating from Neocene period. It is criss-crossed by deep valleys formed by heavy erosion. This veritable lunar landscape distinguishes itself by its extensive geological formations. The highly typical morphological structures of Cappadocia are the result of thousands of years of continual erosion, which has shaped the tuff deposits into the strangest pyramids and cones.

Cappadocia
Lying in south central Turkey, the moonscaped region of Cappadocia, southeast of Ankara, is most famous for unique geological features called fairy chimneys. The large, cone-like formations were created over time by erosion of the relatively soft volcanic ash around them. Past cultures have dug into them to create dwellings, castles (like Uchisar) and even entire underground cities like Kaymakli and Derinkuyu, used as hiding places by early Christians. Nearby Kayseri is the gateway to the area.

Goreme Open Air Museum
The Goreme Open-Air Museum resembles a vast monastic complex composed of scores of refectory monasteries placed side-by-side, each with its own fantastic church. It is obviously the first sight to be visited by any traveler in Cappadocia, standing as it does in the very center of the region with easy access from all directions.

Ozkonak Underground City
underground city is built under the hill known as the Citadel and was opened to visitors in 1964. The people of ozkonak (Enegup in Greek) village have constructed their houses around nearly one hundred tunnels of the underground city. The inhabitants of the region still use the most convenient places in the tunnels as cellars, storage areas and stables, which they access through their courtyards. The ozkonak Underground City has low, narrow and sloping passages. While the underground city consists of 8 floors below ground, only 4 of them are open to the public today, in which the spaces are organized around ventilation shafts.

Pasabag Vadisi
Pasabag in Cappadocia is located on the road to Zelve, coming from Goreme or Avanos. Highly remarkable earth pillars can be seen here, in the middle of a vineyard, hence the name of the place which means: the Pacha's vineyard. Pacha means "General", the military rank, in Turkish and it is a very common nick name. This site is also called Monks Valley. The name was derived from some cones carved in tuff stones which stand apart. Currently, there is a vineyard and a number of tuff cones standing right next to the road.

Pigeon Valley

We had a great day in Cappadocia with our tour guide Serkan. He was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the tour and learned a lot. Everything was well organized, and we had a wonderful time.
The guide was super friendly and informative, we would definitely recommend this to anyone who's planing to visit Cappadocia. But the one thing you need to be careful is that aggressive sales for the pottery stores tactics were far too much. Even though we were already on our way out, the staff grabbed my husband by the arm and pulled him back into the shop. They then told us it was a “honeymoon price” and offered us a price that was half of the amount shown on the price tag. Even at that price, it was unbelievably expensive. Other than this, everything else was absolutely perfect!
My wife and I really enjoyed our tour with Serkan. His explanations of Turkish history were interesting and easy to follow, and his sense of humour kept the day lively. The tour never felt monotonous, and we came away having learned and experienced something new. The traditional craft demonstrations were a highlight, along with exploring the underground city. Seeing its tunnels and rooms helped us appreciate how local communities used these underground spaces for shelter and protection during times of danger and conflict. We also enjoyed Paşabağ, known as Monks Valley, with its remarkable “fairy chimney” rock formations and the chapels and living spaces carved into them. The site includes a chapel dedicated to Saint Simeon. Seeing these spaces up close was a memorable part of the visit. For anyone planning their budget, the entrance fees during our visit were €6 per person for the underground city and €12 per person for Paşabağ. Check the latest prices and what your tour includes before booking. We finished the day very satisfied. Thank you, Serkan, for making our Cappadocia experience informative, fun and memorable.
Other than the bus’s air conditioning being very weak Ekrem was an extremely knowledgeable guide. Note: unless you purchase the entrance tickets, you must purchase tickets at each stop so expect to pay an extra 40 euros or so in addition to the tour fee.
