Besides some stairs at the beginning of the hike, the trail flattens out and winds along the river valley below a ridge. 1 mile down the trail, our destination is a stone bench beside a serene bow in the river, where we can pause and enjoy one another and the peace and quiet.

Tongass National Forest
Come join us on a lovely 3.6-mile roundtrip hike through an Alaska State Park into the Tongass National Forest. Enjoy a small group of up to 7 guests! First relax on the 40-minute scenic drive to the end of the road. Then hike an improved gravel trail alongside a river with glimpses of waterfalls. Walk through a magical old-growth rainforest displaying impressive specimens of Sitka spruce and western red cedar. Besides some stairs at the beginning of the hike, the trail flattens out and winds along the river valley below a ridge. 1 mile down the trail, our destination is a stone bench beside a serene bow in the river, where we can pause and enjoy one another and the peace and quiet. TONGASS TEAGUE LLC MEETING INSTRUCTIONS CRUISE PASSENGERS: MEET INSIDE THE BERTH 3 GLASS SHELTER BY THE CITY MAP that butts up to Tongass Avenue. RIGHT NEXT TO SOCKEYE SAM'S @ 425 Water St, Ketchikan, AK 99901. WARD COVE GUESTS: Customers docked here will need to take a shuttle downtown to meet at the Berth 3 shelter. Pick-up may be requested depending on availability. Please contact Teague to see about the possibility of arranging a pick-up and/or drop-off. Non-cruise passengers: Please call Teague to arrange a pick-up location. Refer to the map on your ticket voucher to find Berth 3 from your ship's dock. The time listed on your ticket is the time of the tour's departure. Please be punctually mindful and arrive on time.

Teague was an excellent guide! He was so knowledgeable and funny!! It was so cool to see different trees and flowers we don’t have at home I highly recommended this tour.
Loved it ! Great price and knowledgeable guide
It was quite bold of us to book a hike with a stranger in a forest instead of the cruise sanctioned events but we read review after review that the cruise-sponsored hike was crowded and short for a similar price. We (like you are now) read reviews about Tongass Teague and decided to book with him instead. I’m so glad we did. Charmaine was our guide and she drove us out of town and led us on a beautiful hike. It was like talking to friend, we chatted about life in ketchikan, ecology, the history of the area. We could walk in silence or chat along the way, you could tell it didn’t bother her either way. She was knowledgeable about the plants of the area and it was so fun to spot them along the way. We didn’t see any other people once on the trail. It was magic. The trail is astoundingly beautiful. It looked like a movie set, because there was no way that this was real. It was lush, vibrant, with so many visual textures and sounds. I was absolutely devastated when it was time to turn back. We ended the hike with a little refreshment on the beach. The beginning of the trail is easy/moderate hike, there are a few sets of stairs and only one of those sets was steep with a few steps being just under knee high. We had to turn back before the trail became rougher to get back to board our ship but it was the best money we spent on this trip.
We chose this as our excursion when our ship docked for the day. The hike was beautiful and the guide was excellent! A definite must do!
Beautiful hike. Great waterfalls away from crowds. We also liked learning about the town as we drove! Chad was a great leader.
This is a moderate difficulty trail with multiple steps up and down. Very lush vegetation, babbling stream and small waterfalls along the way. Chad was very informative….a wealth of detailed info about the history, culture, and flora & fauna. We got to see forest, salmon stream, and ocean view all in less than 3 miles.
Chad our guide was amazing. He was very mindful of keeping the walking pace manageable. It was a small group of 5 which made it very personalised. Chad had great knowledge of the forest and we got a treat of peppermint tea in the forest. We were not rushed to get back into town. Would recommend him to friends.
This was a great way to explore a place that we would not have found on our own. Chad found us at the pick up point on a very rainy day and shared his knowledge and experience with us as we headed into the woods together. It was easy, relaxing, and more like visiting a with a knowledgeable friend than a guided tour. I would recommend the experience.
