This was such a great experience. Hitomi showed us a really peaceful shrine and tea room and led us through a short meditation. The duck who lives there had just hatched some ducklings. She taught us the local customs when visiting a temple which was very helpful for future visits to shrines. I highly recommend booking this tour at the beginning of your stay in Kagoshima because Hitomi has some really amazing recommendations for where to eat, what to visit, etc. She is so nice and such a gracious host, you will have a lovely time with her.
We had a truly wonderful experience on this tour with Hitomi! She was so knowledgeable and thoughtful. She taught us how to properly pass through the torii gate and how to pray at the shrine. Being in the beautiful garden was wonderful and she performed a singing bowl meditation for us, which was very relaxing. We finished with a coffee shop visit that was excellent. The whole day was relaxing and so pleasant. We loved it. We would book a tour with Hitomi again anytime we are in Kagoshima.
Our guide Hitomi was excellent,Her communication before the tour and all the information she gave us,She even provided information to show to the taxi driver to take us to the meeting point, We had such an incredible experience away from the usual tourist spots,We were invited to attend a tea ceremony performed by local school kids which was so special;We also met a high priest in 1 of the shrines and he was as honoured to meet us as we were him and had a photo taken with us,Amazing experiences we will never forget,We met local people who were so welcoming thanks to our guide Hitomi ❤️

It was an absolutely lovely tour around Kagoshima. Hitomi was a wonderful guide and explained the history and traditions behind each location we went to. We also had a meditation session in the garden which was so peaceful with the sounds of nature and water running in the background. We also stopped by two shrines where Hitomi explained the customs there and how to pray. Overall this was great experience where i got to learn a lot about Kagoshima!
Hitomi and her husband were excellent guides, taking me around to visit a variety of Shinto shrines and a very scenic garden in Kagoshima. Some places were more hidden away and with fewer people, and others larger. Hitomi not only shared the history but also guided me on how the local people interact with shrines and the proper way to conduct oneself when visiting. The short meditation session in the garden was a nice way to be immersed in the area, and there were plenty of photo opportunities throughout. Additionally, the tonkatsu lunch place Hitomi and her husband recommended was very nice, and over the day, they gave me plenty of recommendations not only for Kagoshima but for other regions in Kyushu as well - The conversation you can have with locals made for a genuine experience that's hard to find. I would highly recommend Hitomi's tour for those looking for a more authentic and personable experience - the tour is an excellent value and there is no comparison to having very friendly and inviting locals guide you around their city!
The hidden gems tour was truly the highlight of my trip to Kagoshima! The Japanese gardens and temples were breathtakingly beautiful. The tour guide, Hitomi is personable and a wealth of knowledge about the history and culture of the area. She is a wonderful guide and expert level English speaker. I feel like I got to experience a part of Kagoshima only known to the locals. The visit to the Japanese gardens and temples left me in a meditative state of mind. Book this tour IMMEDIATELY if you have the chance.
The tour with Hitomi to the garden and temples was one of the highlights of my month long Japan Trip. The meditation with sound crystals and hearing the water flowing in the garden was serene and peaceful. The garden was beautiful and felt like our private oasis as we were the only visitors at that time. The temples were interesting and I appreciate Hitomi’s guidance on temple etiquette including how to rinse hands and mouth and how to pray. I loved the 600 year old tree that was next to one of the temples. The tour was informative, enjoyable and I would take tour again next time I visit Kagoshima. Thanks Hitomi!
