Gavalas Winery
Das Weingut Gavalas in Megalochori auf Santorin ist eines der ältesten Weingüter der Insel. Es ist spezialisiert auf Weine mit begrenzter Produktion aus einheimischen Rebsorten wie Assyrtiko, Aidani, Mandilaria und Mavrotragano. Die Besucher können Führungen und Verkostungen genießen, die das Wesen des reichen Weinkulturerbes Santorinis zeigen.

Das Weingut liegt ganz in der Nähe des Hafens und bietet Blick auf die herrliche Caldera von Santorin. Die Familie Venetsanos baute es 1947 und machte es zum ersten industriellen Weingut der Insel.

We had an excellent time. Yiannis is an exceptional sommelier and extremely knowledgeable about both the history of the vineyards and wine industry here, and about the country. We learned about the growing of the vines, were able to see grapes drying in the sun to improve the quality and flavor of some wines and see the interior of 2 wineries. He taught us about the different aromas and flavors of the wines and paired them with different cheeses and snacks. Yiannis explained the process of making wine and explained some distinctive aging techniques. We had an enjoyable and informative experience. We highly recommend this tour! He even found us some fresh figs on the way which was a great bonus for me!
Yesterday we had our wine tour with Wineland Tours and we were excited to find out about winemaking in Santorini and taste the island’s selection of wines. Yannis was super friendly yet professional, shared information in a way even us first-time wine drinkers can understand and left room for us to ask questions. We can’t wait to try wines now and try to figure out the tastes on our own. Overall a great, value-for-money experience and I would definitely come back and tour the rest of the wineries one day.
Nikos provided the premium experience with his vast knowledge from the vine to the very last drop wine. He is extremely accommodating and a people person. For example, he even gave us an extra 20 min to roam around Santos to take in all its glory with a suggested glass of wine from him.
