We had such a wonderful experience hiking through Hakone with Aki! He picked a beautiful route and was extremely knowledgeable about the area and history, we learned so much! Our family loved our hike with Aki - highly recommend!
Aki was an excellent hiking guide. He Knew so much about the area and its history and was very accommodating for changing the schedule when my son got injured. We loved the beautiful scenery, Japanese tea house and all of the info Aki provided. He even took pictures along the way! Highly recommend.
We traveled to Hakone with our adult children. An incredible hike through history! Walking along the ancient, 400-year-old cobblestone trail felt like stepping back into Japan. The trail is lined with massive, towering cedar trees that provide wonderful shade (the mossy stone steps can get a little slippery, so wear shoes with good grip!). Our guide, Aki was not only informed about the ecosystem, but also had extensive knowledge of the the cultural and political background of Japan when the Tokaido trail was being built. Aki’s tour was a perfect mix of culture and nature!"
As we were staying in Hakone for only a brief amount of time, I wanted to do something special. I made the absolute best choice engaging Akihiro and Coconuts Hikes Japan for a guided hike of the Old Tokaido Road. Aki is a super engaging host, telling us the history of the path we walked and about the nature we saw. Aside from the breathtaking countryside and interesting history, we made various stops along the way. We visited a store of local woodcraft artists and purchased some lovely things (please note there is ZERO pressure to purchase anything). We also stopped for tea and mochi at a tea house that has been hosting travelers along the road for an extraordinarily long time and met its most hospitable and charming owner. We even got to clearly see Mt. Fuji at the conclusion of our hike near the Hakone Checkpoint! And if that weren’t enough, Aki took amazing photographs throughout the journey. Before we even met Aki, he was super responsive to all of my questions as I planned our transportation to Odawara Station at the end of the hike. If you are looking for something off the beaten path in Hakone (pun intended), a hike with Aki and Coconuts Hikes Japan is a perfect choice. We now have memories, photos and artwork from the adventure that we will treasure always. Arigato gozaimashita Aki!
Must do hike in hakone ... Akihiro or Aki as we called him, knows the trails intimately and makes it very interesting by explaining the Japanese history of the road, the cedar and cypress trees line and how it helped shape a nation. Aki is patient, very helpful, articulate in English and it was a awesome day out for our family. We strongly recommend the hike
