Our separate guide and driver allows us to give your group the attention it deserves. Our guide accompanies you on the majority of the stops and we also give you free time to enjoy the area. You will see Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns, the city of Inverness, and Loch Ness, including getting to meet the Loch Ness Monster Hunter! The tour ends with a visit to Singleton Distillery.
There is also an option to add on a visit to cawdor castle for an additional fee.
In between stops enjoy expert commentary on the history, folklore and customs of the area, Scottish music, authentic snacks and drinks, and most of all fantastic craic!

Invergordon
We’ll pick you up from the shuttle bus stop (Stop 1) at Invergordon Cruise Port with a warm Highland welcome, ready to start our day exploring the beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Our female guide will meet you off the shuttle bus with a sign showing your name. They will be wearing blue tartan trousers!

Culloden Battlefield
Our first stop will be Culloden Battlefield. We will walk around the battlefield while learning about the atrocities that occured here on the 16th April 1746. The ripples from the battle are still felt in the Highlands today and our guide will explain with passion how it changed our culture forever. They will take you to a great viewpoint and show you where the troops stood facing one another before the Jacobites were slaughtered. You will also be shown the makeshift hospital cottage, the grave markers and other points of interest before being given some free time to absorb the atmosphere of this haunting historical site. There are restrooms at this stop for your comfort.

Clava Cairns
Our second stop is the ancient burial site of Clava Cairns. Marvel at these bronze age cairns and touch the standing stones as the guide explains how and why these structures came to be built 4000 years ago. Learn how the Victorians romanticised and changed the landscapes of Clava, and imagine how it used to be all the way back in 2000 BC. Walk in the footsteps of ancient Scottish cultures and try to peice together the mysteries they left behind.

Inverness
Our local tour guide will give you a brief walking tour around the city cente of their home town of Inverness (Or Inversnecky as the locals call it), including historical sites, architecture, and lessor knows gems and stories that only the locals know. See the oldest pub, visit a site where Jacobite soldiers were executed after the Battle of Culloden, and get a great view of the newly renovated castle. You will then give you some free time to grab a coffee or lunch at a place of your choice. Our guide will, of course, give some great recommendations. We don't want you to feel rushed during this stop and will give you time to truly experience the city.

Loch Ness
We will drive to the East Coast of Loch Ness, stopping at the stunning Dores Beach where you can get up close and personal to Loch Ness and witness one of its most beautiful views. If you're lucky you might even get a glimpse of our most famous beast! Learn how our guide's own mum filmed what she believes to be Loch Ness and view the viral video before judging for yourself! Visit the "Loch Ness Monster Hunter" who has lived on the beach since the early 90s! Enjoy a gaelic toast with your group and guide before we head back to Invergordon and your cruise

The Singleton Distillery

We will arrive in our Tartan Trailblazer Minibus around 10 minutes prior to departure. If you are getting picked up at the cruise port we will be waiting across the road at the traffic lights. We will have a board with your name on it and be wearing bright blue tartan trousers!

We loved our tour and highly recommend Tartan Trailblazers! We were a group of seven, so it was just our group in the nice new van. Our guide was able to personalize our tour because of that, and she was super flexible and helpful. Finella is a true local to the area and well-versed in the history and lore. She even provided some memorable Scottish music along the way. Unfortunately we did not spot Nessie this trip. Highly recommended!
Fantastic excursion. Finella was our guide driver and went out of her way to make our time stress free and enjoyable. Very seldom do guides begin contacting you the day before to confirm and provide last minute instructions for making contact. Finella took that a step further by contacting us two days ahead, asking if we had last minute concerns or questions and wanting to know if we wanted her to make a booking for our group (6) at a local restaurant. So appreciated! Then, the tour itself was marvelous - perfect combination of informed history and personal perspective. Highly recommend! We would have like to have taken her with us to the next port!
Finnella was amazing! She was so informative about the places that we visited and her suggestion of a local pub for lunch was delicious! I cannot say enough great things about this tour and our tour guide!
I can’t rare this experience highly enough! 10/10, five stars, 100%! From the very beginning, Michelle was incredibly accommodating and an excellent communicator. She even brought a child car seat for our 2½-year-old son, and there was plenty of room for his stroller. Michelle and Mags tailored the day to include everything that was important to us—Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns, Highland cows, Loch Ness, and even a distillery for whisky tasting. Mags was incredibly knowledgeable and shared the history behind every stop, making the entire day both fascinating and memorable. They also treated us to local Scottish snacks and even made a reservation for us at a wonderful local pub that was perfect for our family’s needs. (Group of 10). This was truly one of the highlights of our trip, and we will never forget our day in the Highlands. Mags and Michelle are absolutely amazing, and I would recommend them to anyone visiting Scotland!
We had an absolutely SPECTACULAR experience. Fin is not only a wealth of knowledge and an incredible story teller, she is also a wonderfully kind and pleasant person with whom we were immediately comfortable. We saw so much, experienced even more, and despite a long day, the time flew by. Fin adapted to our wants and needs and was a most gracious host and tour guide. The value of what we received was more than we paid.
This was a FANTASTIC tour and I highly recommend it! We were a family of 11 ranging in age from 8 to 84 and one of our members needed to use a walker (rollator). Our driver and tour guide were so responsive to everyone’s needs. They surprised us with small Scottish treats along the way sampling cookies and soda we don’t have in the US. Our time off the ship was tight and they made sure we could visit everything we wanted to see. The kids in our group loved visiting the castles. My parents were so impressed with the tour guide and her knowledge. The driver was so kind and a fantastic driver on those small Scottish roads. And they both made sure to help my mom who has mobility difficulties. The value is likewise fantastic and definitely so much better than going through the cruise tours… cheaper and small group instead of on a giant bus. Thank you to Mags and Michelle for giving all of us an unforgettable day as a family!
The ladies were knowledgeable, friendly and very accomodating. The passion for their town and heritage evident with an array of interesting facts mixed with humour and stories. Felt like we were spending time with friends rather than a tour. Would thoroughly recommend!!! We were a family of 6 with ages from 16 to 83 and all we entertained the whole day. Great day ladies!!!!
Great tour! Finela and Michelle put on a very relaxed, informative almost complete tour despite our truncated schedule due to a passport inspection for our entire ship by the UK immigration force. Funny, down to earth, knowledgeable and passionately interested in the cultural and natural history of Scotland. Two thumbs up!
