We very much enjoyed our private tour to the Medoc region. Our guide, Gosia, was a great teacher, answered all our questions, and was loads of fun. Our first stop was at an amazing 1855 classified, 2nd growth chateau. Here we received a tour of the whole operation from the vines to bottling. We learned about different barrels and how they are marked and used. We tasted three of their delicious wines. After lunch, we visited an 1855 classified, 4th growth chateau for another great tasting and discussion of their wines. We also visited an independently owned winery where we had a very interesting tasting. For the same vintage, we tasted single varietal wines of the three grapes they grow, and then we tasted the blend they produced that same year. It was extremely interesting tasting the blend – we could taste the improvement and also identify some of the flavors in the blend from the individual varieties. This was a great day.
