Oia
Ga eerst naar het noordwestelijke deel van het eiland en beleef de beste ervaring van Oia. Uniek in elk opzicht met iconische blauwe koepelkerken en schilderachtige paden. Een van de meest gefotografeerde plaatsen in Griekenland, Oia ligt op de top van een indrukwekkende klif en biedt een spectaculair uitzicht over de vulkaan en de Egeïsche zee. Het beroemde Venetiaanse kasteel is een belangrijke bezienswaardigheid van het dorp. Ook bekend als het kasteel van St Nikolas, werd het 15e-eeuwse kasteel gebouwd tijdens de Venetiaanse bezetting. De ligging is de reden dat het een van de meest populaire plaatsen is om de zonsondergang in de hele Egeïsche Zee te bekijken. Andere culturele attracties en bezienswaardigheden zijn onder andere het Maritiem Museum met zijn kleine bibliotheek, windmolens en kunstgalerijen opgericht door talloze kunstenaars die verliefd werden op het gebied.

De Pyrgos Kallistis, zoals de volledige naam van het dorp de mooiste toren betekent, is de oude hoofdstad van het eiland en het nieuwste kasteel van de Kasteli (kasteelsteden gebouwd tijdens de 15e en 16e eeuw). De middeleeuwse aura blijft leven in de straten en in de schaduw van de torens van de vele kerken van het dorp. Een wandeling naar het dorp Pyrgos brengt u dichter bij een belangrijk stuk geschiedenis van het eiland.

Prophet Elias Lookout Point
De hoogste plek van het eiland (567 meter) ligt tussen Pyrgos en Kamari. De naam van de berg is Profitis Ilias (Profeet Elia), afkomstig van het klooster met dezelfde naam op de top. Vanaf dit uitkijkpunt geniet u van een opvallend uitzicht over het hele eiland, van de lappendeken aan landbouwvlaktes tot het heuveltopdorp Oia.

Santorini Wine Stories

Dimitri was waiting for us and excited to show us the island. He was a wonderful driver, thought of our every need, willing to accommodate our interests and had secret spots of his own. He took 45 photos of us and sent them to us on What's App before our trip was even over. He was very personable and we enjoyed our day with him. We arranged for this tour through our hotel. As we were going to reach Santorini Airport and then check in around 12.30pm, we arranged for the tour to be from 3pm - 9pm. Dimitris was early in meeting us, and then we promptly set off for Oia. He brought us to many of the popular photo spots and took lots of photos for us too. Then he brought us to many other places in Santorini, and because we said we wanted to see the sunset, he arranged for dinner reservations at a restaurant where we had the best seats in the house! The food was delicious, too. Throughout the tour, the care that he extended to my mom (who’s in her 60s and needs to walk slowly) was very much appreciated as I, too, struggled with the steps at some points. Therefore, this is truly the best way to enjoy Santorini. Thanks very much, Dimitris!
