Pyrgos
Pyrgos casteli (45 minuten)Pyrgos werd gebouwd op de top van een heuvel en was tot begin 1800 de hoofdstad van het eiland. Het dorp bestaat uit traditionele huizen die rond het Venetiaanse kasteel zijn gebouwd en de kleine straatjes volgen de vorm van de heuvel. Klimmend van het plein naar het kasteel van Pyrgos, de stenen huizen staan dichter op elkaar en het labyrint van smalle gewelfde steegjes wordt kronkeliger. Het dorp heeft veel kerken, ongeveer 33, maar de meest bekende is het klooster van Profitis Ilias, waar een kleine verzameling etnografisch materiaal en oude iconen tentoongesteld zijn. Pyrgos is een plaats die zeker een bezoek waard is en voldoende tijd besteedt aan het meest fantastische panoramische uitzicht van het eiland.

Monastery of Profitis Ilias
Profitis Ilias (30 minuten) Het hoogste punt van het eiland (567 meter) ligt tussen Pyrgos en Kamari. De naam van de berg is Profitis Ilias (Profeet Elia), afkomstig van het klooster met dezelfde naam op de top. Vanaf dit uitkijkpunt heb je een prachtig uitzicht over het hele eiland, van de lappendeken van landbouwvlaktes tot het heuveldorp Oia.

Megalochori - Traditional Village
• Traditioneel dorp Megalochori (45 minuten) met zijn typische traditionele Cycladische huizen en neoklassieke gebouwen. Het is gelegen tussen Pyrgos, Emporio en Akrotiri op een afstand van minder dan 10 km van Fira. Het is gemaakt van honderden kleine wit geschilderde huizen die op elkaar zijn gebouwd en wordt gekenmerkt door zijn prachtige kerken. Het combineert traditionele architectuur met gewelfde huizen en calderimia (met stenen geplaveide smalle paden) en een levendige gemeenschap met een vrij grote permanente bevolking

Milan was friendly, knowledgeable & flexible. He was great communicating before the tour so we knew exactly where to meet him & could set up our schedule. He is enthusiastic & makes sure you get to do what you want with your time, for example we last minute decided to do a wine tasting and he knew the perfect place to recommend. He’s an excellent host in Santorini!
I had a wonderful experience. Aris is a perfect tour guide of the island. He knows very well the history of the island, we can feel he is passion while he was bringing us around. He is very gentle and patient on answering all questions (also the stupid once). He also has a very good music taste ( ask for some Greek music advice). The guy is very funny and interesting, we had a really good conversation about his life and I would say it was as much interesting as the tour.
Milan was an enthusiastic and excellent guide to the history and off the beaten path beauty of Santorini. We loved pulling off the road to learn how wine grows, to hear about the beginnings of European settlement and to discover how eruptions have shaped geological and early Minoan history. We would have enjoyed hearing more about modern history, food and culture but the sights we saw, including an excellent restaurant overlooking a harbor, a small town still enjoying traditional life and long beautiful beaches, filled in some of the gaps. We so enjoyed our private tour and heartily recommend Milan.
We had an outstanding experience exploring Santorini with Aris!! Very knowledgeable, and polite! Transportation was smooth and the can was very clean. For 5 hours together he drove us to at least 5 different locations, we were able to have some alone time and shop, grab a drink and lunch at the sea tavern! Overall if I ever go back to Santorini- Aris ,as a guide -would be my number one choice!
