Upon entering the shops, the aroma of the exquisite herbs and spices wafting through the air will transport you to the top of Mt. Taygetos, the local mountain.
You’ll taste local mouth-watering homemade delicacies, flavoursome Messinian appetizers and all sorts of traditional Greek treats.
You’ll take part in a short yet fulfilling olive-oil tasting with a professional and certified olive-oil taster and enjoy exquisite local wines through a short wine tasting along with our oenologist, Mr. Giannis!

Wat je gaat doen
U bezoekt het historische centrum van een van de mooiste kuststeden van de Peloponnesos: Kalamata! De plaats staat bekend om zijn voortreffelijke olijfolie en zijn wereldberoemde zwarte Kalamata olijven. De stad heeft echter zoveel meer te bieden en deze ervaring zal u helpen de verborgen juweeltjes te ontdekken. U begint uw gastronomische ervaring met een ontspannen wandeling door de straten van deze prachtige kuststad. Bezoek lokale familiewinkels en een werkplaats, leer oude verhalen en voel de authenticiteit van de lokale bevolking. We maken 6 eetstops in lokale winkels, proeven van overheerlijke lekkernijen, eten en drinken en we sluiten onze geweldige Food tour af met een heerlijke lichte lunch in een Griekse ouzo taverne. - De traditionele werkplaats in deel 2 is alleen 's ochtends geopend en 's middags gesloten. Daarom bezoeken we, wanneer de Food tour 's middags plaatsvindt, een andere beschikbare workshop of worden de twee lokale producten aan het einde van de ervaring gegeven en begint de tour met het bezoek in de lokale winkel in deel 3.
- Beschikbaarheid: De food tour ervaring is beschikbaar in de ochtend van maandag tot zaterdag, met uitzondering van zondagen, Heilige Vrijdag – Paasdinsdag en Griekse officiële feestdagen.
- In de middag sluit de wijnwinkel om 20:45 uur dus de wijnproeverij van de lokale wijnen, vindt plaats tijdens het lichte diner.
- Op maandag, woensdag en zaterdagmiddag zijn de meeste lokale winkels gesloten, de Coffee Micro Roastery. Daarom bezoeken we een andere Coffeeshop en genieten we van onze Griekse koffie terwijl we wandelen in het historische centrum.
- De duur van de Food tour ervaring kan worden afgestemd op de individuele behoeften van elke gast.

- Gelieve ons op de hoogte te stellen van eventuele speciale dieetwensen, b.v. vegetarisch, veganistisch, pescatarian, flexitariër enz. of voedselallergieën, allergieën voor bijen enz.

My daughter lives in Greece, so we don't do the 'typical' tourist trap things. We opt to go to other areas for a few nights to learn about the different areas. Kalamata was an easy choice to learn more about olives, and this tour went beyond that! Maria is an exceptional, warm, proud local who is has formed an alliance with vendors. She takes you to their shops to teach about local offerings--and taste! The tastings were all wonderful, even with a 4 year old in tow for 4 hours. Maria was awesome with our family of 5, and treated us like we were her family. She fell in love with my granddaughter, and kept her attention. We also got goodie bags at the final stop--family style lunch and wine--and there was something special for the little one. That toy entertained her for the long drive back home. Probably one of the best tours we've ever done, all over the world. Learn from the friendly locals and support their economy :)
We had such a lovely time on this food tour of Kalamata. Maria was a fantastic guide - warm, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable, and it was clear throughout the tour how passionate she is about Greek food, culture and her home country. We got to try a great variety of delicious local foods, many of which we probably wouldn’t have discovered on our own, while also learning about the history and character of Kalamata as we explored the city. Maria brought everything to life with her stories and enthusiasm. My boyfriend and I both thoroughly enjoyed the experience and came away feeling like we had experienced a much more authentic side of Kalamata. We’d definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting the city - especially if you love good food and want to learn more about Greece from someone who genuinely loves sharing it.
Maria is an incredible woman and has put together a lovely tour filled with knowledge of Greece and Kalamata’s history and culture. Throughout the tour, you get to try many delicious Greek foods from small, local businesses and learn about olive oil from an expert. As a solo, female traveler, I definitely recommend Mama’s Flavors!

Our food tour with Mamas Flavours was one of the highlights of our entire trip to the Peloponnese. Maria Monastirioti is so knowledgeable, engaging and gracious, and she taught us a great deal not only about the Greek foods that we had a chance to taste, but also about the sights around Kalamata that we saw during our walking tour. She readily customized our experience to fit our time constraints on the day of our tour, and also helped us tour a church I was interested in seeing when we were nearby. We happened to schedule this tour in advance of our arrival in Greece and it was actually our last day there. My biggest wish after was that I had actually toured with Maria the first day we were in Greece, because we would have been able to appreciate and seek out culinary experiences with greater knowledge. I did buy several products, but there is absolutely no pressure at all to purchase anything - Maria made that very clear at each stop. We were a party of four adults, two in our 50s and two in their 20s and everyone agrees that touring with Maria was one of the most memorable things about our trip. Highly recommended!

From start to finish Maria has been amazing. From my initial enquiry, to the tour itself. She is so organised, prepared and knowledgeable, the entire process has been faultless, and the tour far exceeded any expectations we had. We came away with not only an understanding and love of the local food, oils and wines, but also the people and the place itself.
