The Temple of Artemis
The Temple of Artemis is known as one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world.it had tremendous dimensions: 127 columns of each 17,5 meters high. Unfortunately, this one has also been destroyed by fire, reconstructed and again demolished by earthquakes, rebuilt and at last looted by Goths one year later. Today the basement and some broken pillars only can be seen from the temple.

Our guide, Emine, was amazing! She reached out to us the night before to make sure we knew how to navigate the cruise terminal. She was early, ready, and waiting for us when we got off the boat. She didn’t leave our side the entire time- which was helpful while navigating the large crowds! Emine was very passionate and knowledgeable about Ephesus, the surrounding villages, and of course about Turkish culture. Her network of contacts allowed her to properly schedule our site visits in a way that would maximize our time without long lines. EVERYONE knew and loved her- it was great to see other guides and professionals greet her with a smile and to see her kindly respond to everyone. Emine helped us navigate the rug demonstration and sales pitch, knowing we were not in the market for a Turkish rug. know that, on this tour, you go to an educational center attached to the luncheon restaurant. The gentlemen teaching about the rugs and selling them were very knowledgeable, but did get a little pushy- again Emine helped us navigate it, saying numerous times we didn’t have to purchase anything! Since we had some extra time before going back to the port, she took us to a leather shop. We were surprised that the shop put on a full-blown fashion show, models and all! The sales people there were very kind and accommodating, and we ended up buying a few items. Again, Emine was there to help us negotiate prices, exchange rates, etc. All entrance fees were included with this tour, as was a private driver and van (our driver was excellent navigating the traffic). If you ever have the chance to do a tour with Emine, do it! Her passion for her Turkish culture and knowledge of ancient Turkey is incomparable!
