Amazing 3D2N Jungle Trek with a Truly Local Team We had an amazing experience with Sumatra Orangutan Treks on their 3-day, 2-night jungle trek in Bukit Lawang. One of the reasons we chose this company is that it is 100% locally owned which is important to choose when travelling. Our guides, Nurdin and Topik, were excellent throughout the trek. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and worked incredibly hard to make the experience enjoyable. They guided us through the jungle, prepared great lunches and fruit breaks, and always made us feel welcome. We were very lucky with wildlife sightings, seeing 13 orangutans, as well as long-tailed and pig-tailed macaques, silver leaf monkeys, Thomas's leaf monkeys, white-handed gibbons, and siamang gibbons. Seeing so many animals in their natural habitat was a real highlight. A special mention goes to Chef Jamal, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. From transporting bedding and cooking meals in camp each evening to carrying supplies and rafting equipment on the final day, his hard work was a huge part of what made the trek such a success. We'd also like to thank Egy, who was incredibly helpful in extending our stay in Bukit Lawang, organising a birthday surprise for my partner, and helping arrange other activities in the area. A fantastic experience from start to finish and one of the highlights of our time in Indonesia. Highly recommended!

I did the 3D 2N jungle trek with Sumatra Orangutan Treks and I could not recommend them enough. I had an incredible time with them. They are so well organised (they also are very quick to respond on WhatsApp they are very helpful) The actual trek was great, we had an amazing guide Rio, he spoke perfect English he was very nice, always smiling and very funny. We had a great time, it was a small group (4people) we saw so many animals during these 3 days it was a wonderful experience. Also the campsite was really clean and actually very comfortable for the jungle, also the food was amazing, you couldn’t go hungry (we had breakfast, then we stopped for fruit in the morning, then lunch, after we arrived at the camp we had tea/coffee and biscuits, and after diner) I would 100% come back I loved it so much I would recommend Sumatra Orangutan Treks with no hesitation.

Such a cool experience! The trek was hard but so worth it and doable if you’re fairly fit and love the outdoors. We saw loads of monkeys and 7 orangutans including a male and mother with a baby. It all felt very ethical as we didn’t disturb them. The meals were plentiful and very tasty - great job Bharjan. So thankful to my guides, Yoga and Bambang for keeping me safe and making the experience fun and informative all the time. Trema Kasih!

We just completed our 3 days, 2 nights trekking in Bukit Lawang. The tour was absolutely incredible and we highly recommend it. We saw many orangutans as well as white and black gibbons, and many other animals. We did the tour with Ahmed and Janet (our tour guides) and they were a big part of why we liked this experience so much. We particularly appreciated that this organisation is ethical: they make sure not to feed the animals and not to leave any trash behind. We noticed that other organisations do not have a similar approach. Additionally, this is a local organisation and consequently we strongly recommend to choose this one! Do ask for Ahmed and Janet as your tour guides to have an amazing experience. Food was also incredible and abundant! On a small note, trekking can be a bit hard and accomodation is very simple - a truly jungle experience! 100% recommended.

We had an amazing three-day, two-night trek - truly one of the best experiences of my travels. The whole team was fantastic from start to finish. They helped us organise smooth, hassle-free transport to and from the airport, and communication over WhatsApp was super easy - every question answered promptly. The hosts before and after the trek were so welcoming, and the hotel accommodation was beautiful. Our guides Jimmy and Arman were friendly, encouraging, entertaining and incredibly knowledgeable, tailoring the route to our ability and the animals we most wanted to see. We spotted so much wildlife, including orangutans, Thomas leaf monkeys, macaques, hornbills, snakes and more. The trek was tough at times, but completely worth it. The jungle chef cooked amazing meals, and the camps were cosy and well organised. The rafting was super fun and an amazing way to end the experience. Loved that this is a locally owned company - you can really feel the passion and care. Highly, highly recommend to anyone visiting Bukit Lawang/Sumatra! Thanks, Sam and Alex
