I took the Ramen and Gyoza class with Ali. We made homemade stock and ramen noodles from scratch! Aki is a great teacher and our lunch was delicious!
I had stumbled into this workshop on a whim by a recommendation from a friend and am SO glad I joined in. At first I felt a bit intimidated about cooking, especially now that I’ve moved to Japan and was introduced to so many new ingredients. Aki-san truly helped me get my bearings in Japanese cuisine, and instructed the group in easy-to-follow steps that made every recipe digestible (in both meanings of the word!). She was patient, kind, encouraging, and informative. Not only did I learn about Japanese kitchen must-haves, but I also learned about the significance behind “umami” and the process of creating Japan’s recipe staple “dashi” from scratch. I discovered a love for pickled plum, and homemade onigiri (NOT the ones you buy at a konbini). To this day, I consistently make onigiri for myself on a weekly basis. Thanks to Aki-san, I have a new found confidence in the kitchen!
Cooking with Aki-san is really fun! We made so many different dishes, and Aki-san kindly made a special menu so we could use ingredients that I was interested in. Particularly, it was really interesting to learn how to make dashi and see how many dishes we could use it in... different fish and vegetable dishes and soup. I need to practice my onigiri shaping and tamagoyaki making though!
Out of everything I did during my trip to Japan, Tokyo Mom’s Kitchen was by far the most special and memorable experience. From the moment I arrived, “Mom” welcomed me with such warmth and genuine kindness that I immediately felt at home. It wasn’t just a cooking class—it was like being invited into someone’s heart and home. We cooked traditional Japanese dishes together, all from scratch, using fresh ingredients and techniques passed down through generations. Every step of the way, she patiently guided me, shared stories, and made the experience feel deeply personal. But what made it truly unforgettable wasn’t just the food (which was delicious!)—it was the connection. Sitting together at the table, eating the meal we prepared, and sharing stories and laughs made me feel like I had discovered something incredibly rare while traveling: a real cultural connection. If you're visiting Tokyo and want to do something meaningful, something that goes beyond the typical tourist path, this is the experience you’re looking for. I’m so grateful I found it—and I’m sure you won’t regret it either.
He booked this cooking class because we wanted to learn how to make ramen from scratch and it was a really good experience. AKI, our cooking professor was really nice and knew a lot . It was really fun making the noodles from zero and learning the all the process of making the ramen. In the end of the class we enjoyed eating our own food. I defenitely recommend booking this experience if you are in Tokyo.
Aki and Kanna were both friendly and created an amazing environment for everyone. I did the ramen and gyoza course, and the directions were easy to follow along and everything was easy to understand. Their enthusiasm and love were a great addition, so I suggest you give this course a try when you can!
It was very fun cooking Ramen and Gyoza with Aki-san, Kanna-san and Gon-san! I recommend going with friends or family. The final result was really tasty
The experience was great and the instructions were easy to follow even without japanese skills The tasting was also really good ! Would 100% recommend
