Topkapi Palace Museum
Aan drie kanten omringd door de Zee van Marmara, de Bosporus en de Gouden Hoorn, was het Topkapi-paleis de keizerlijke residentie van de Ottomaanse sultans en de thuisbasis van zijn hof en harem. Het paleiscomplex is enorm en bevat 4 grote binnenplaatsen met prachtige tuinen, een enorme keuken, moskeeën, een ziekenhuis, vele paviljoens en de harem. De Topkapi huisvestte elk van de Ottomaanse sultans van Sultan Mehmed II tot Sultan Abdulmecid, die bijna vier eeuwen en 25 sultans besloeg. Dit weelderige paleis was getuige van de grootste glorie en de meest hartverscheurende tragedies in de geschiedenis van het Ottomaanse rijk. Those was an outstanding tour, made more so by our tour guide Fatih Kelek. He was knowledgeable, personable, kind and accommodating.
We were walking the all day through the city and our guide Sedat was very nice, lovely and funny. He explained us all the important things to us. That's was the perfect tour to do when you don't stay so long in Istanbul and you want to visit the most important things.

Our guide was knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about the subject, weaving together stories of sultans, harem intrigue, and empire in a way that made the palace feel alive rather than just a museum. He paced the tour perfectly, giving us time to linger at the highlights — the stunning tilework, the panoramic views over the Bosphorus and Golden Horn from the palace grounds, and the sheer scale and detail of the architecture — while still covering everything efficiently. Going private was absolutely worth it. We skipped the stress of large tour groups, could ask as many questions as we wanted, and moved at our own pace. It made a potentially overwhelming site feel personal and manageable.
