What you'll do

You will be warmly welcomed by your host, Noriko, at Shin-Urayasu Station JE08(just 20 minutes from Tokyo Station). Together, you’ll take a short 3minute walk to her cozy Japanese home. The experience begins with a relaxed tea ceremony. Noriko will share about its history before preparing the first bowl of matcha. Then, you’ll make your own for the second—she’ll guide you step by step. With your tea, you’ll enjoy two small sweets and one seasonal sweet. Next, discover the traditional Japanese instrument, the koto. Noriko will perform two pieces, and then it’s your turn! You may be surprised at how quickly you can play a melody. To make the day more special, you can add the optional, cotton kimono+photos experience for 3,500 yen on site (cash, credit card, or PayPal). You’ll be dressed in traditional style (10 min per man, 20–30 min per woman including selection) Please note the kimono option extends the experience time, and kindly request it when booking. Noriko will help you take memorable photos. We look forward to welcoming you to a private, fun, and unforgettable cultural experience in Japan at local home!

A unique and wonderful experience

The experience we had at Noriko San's home was one of the strongest I had in Japan. Noriko is charming, smart, full of humor and knowledge. Speaks excellent English. We spent a very pleasant few hours learning about Japanese culture, the meaning of kimono and the tea ceremony, and even experienced playing kito. This is an exceptional experience and highly recommended.

Like visiting Japanese friend's home

It was a great experience. Noriko's home was very authentic Japanese style. I learnt about tea ceremony from its history, meanings of routines and tea utensils. Japanese sweet provided was very tasty, match with "macha" tea. I also enjoyed listening "koto", Japanese musical instrument, that Noriko played. It was like visiting Japanese friend's home.

Lovely tea ceremony experience with music

I am so happy to have had such a wonderful experience on my first trip to Japan! The matcha tea in the lovely bowls was very tasty, and the koto was interesting with its own unique musical notation and sounds. I hope everyone will experience this feeling!

Great time

What a delightful way to immerse yourself in genuine Japanese traditions! This intimate cultural experience takes place in a traditional home setting, offering a perfect blend of learning and authentic engagement. Our host, Noriko, explained tea ceremony’s each movement and its significance, from the proper way to admire the tea bowl to the traditional way of whisking matcha. The traditional music demonstration was fascinating. Our host not only performed but also shared interesting historical context about the music's role in Japan. This experience is perfect for anyone interested in Japanese culture beyond the typical tourist attractions. It offers an authentic glimpse into traditional Japanese arts in a warm, personal setting.

Traditional tea ceremony & playing koto

Noriko is a great person, friendly and funny. She has a lot of knowlegde about Japanese history and loves to share that. She’s a wonderful matcha teacher; serves delicious green tea with traditional Japanese sweet, while she explains the history of tea ceremonies. On top of that she has excellent musical skills on the koto, she plays an old Japanese song and teaches us how to play ‘sakura’ on the koto. I really recommend this place! I would love to come back again.
