Calligraphy Workshop at Traditional Folk Craft Shop in Hiroshima

Learning traditional Japanese calligraphy from an artist whose family has practiced the craft for generations was truly fascinating. The workshop was very beginner-friendly, with clear step-by-step guidance that made it easy to follow along, even without any prior experience. I also appreciated the variety of calligraphy options available, which allowed participants to create something meaningful and personal. The instructor was patient, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing this important aspect of Japanese culture. Another great advantage is the location. Situated in the city center, it is easy to visit while exploring Hiroshima and makes for a convenient and rewarding cultural activity. I highly recommend this workshop to anyone interested in Japanese arts and traditions.

It was a fun experience, and the activity was very well organized. First, the owner, who is a calligrapher, explained how to hold and use a brush, and let us practice several times. Finally, we wrote some kanji on thin paper using the brush. He taught us very kindly, and the experience was both fun and easy to try. The location was also convenient, as it was inside a shopping mall in downtown Hiroshima.

We had a lovely session learning about Japanese Calligraphy and getting involved ourselves. We had excellent tuition and opportunity to practice before making our own memorable keepsakes to take home. I joined Ryosei's one-hour Japanese calligraphy workshop and had a wonderful time. As a complete beginner, I wasn't sure if I could write Japanese characters with a brush, but Ryosei's friendly and patient instruction made it surprisingly easy. He explained the basic brush techniques and each stroke clearly, and I was amazed at how much I learned in just one hour. It's obvious that Ryosei is not only a professional calligrapher but also an experienced teacher who knows how to guide beginners. At the end of the session, he wrote a kanji for me in semi-cursive script, and it was truly impressive. The workshop takes place in a fascinating space where traditional Japanese culture and modern pop culture come together, just a short walk from Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Hiroshima!
