Bezoek Acrocorinth, de akropolis van het oude Korinthe, een monolithische rots 550 meter boven de zeespiegel met 7,9 kilometer aan muren, een donjon en drie poorten. Een van de meest indrukwekkende en dominante natuurlijke verdedigingswerken van vandaag. Overblijfselen van kerken, moskeeën, huizen en reservoirs, samen met de tempel van Aphrodite die er ooit stond, kunnen worden gewaardeerd. Hier graasde Pegasus, het gevleugelde paard. Vanaf hier bewonderen we ook de Frankische toren, een adembenemend uitzicht op de vallei beneden, de Korinthische en Saronische zee. Bezoek de Hadgimoustafa-bron: een fontein gebouwd tijdens het Ottomaanse rijk in 1555 na Christus. Stromend water uit de bron van Upper Pieriene werd per ongeluk ontdekt toen Pegasus zijn hoef raakte toen hij probeerde weg te vliegen van Velerefonte en de godin Athena stroomt nog steeds.

Ancient Corinth (Archaia Korinthos)
Bezoek het Archeologisch Museum: met een grote collectie artefacten van de lokale vindplaats en van kleinere locaties in het aangrenzende gebied waarderen we de Griekse, Romeinse, Byzantijnse en Ottomaanse wereld. Bezoek de archeologische vindplaats: Tempel van Apollo - een van de vroegste Dorische tempels op de Peloponnesos en het Griekse vasteland met Dorische monolithische zuilen, zeldzaam in de antieke wereld, gebouwd rond 560 v.Chr. De Romeinse Agora, bestaande uit centrale winkels, een van de beste voorbeelden van een Romeinse marktplaats. Kleine tempels en altaren, Romeinse gebouwen, het oude amfitheater, het Romeinse Odeon, de Glaufkus-fontein, de Romeinse baden, de Lechaion-weg, het Romeinse forum en het beroemde podium of Bema vanwaar de apostel Paulus werd 'beoordeeld' en officieel werd gepresenteerd voor de eerste keer voor de Grieken en Romeinen als Romeins staatsburger. We booked the Private Biblical Tour of Ancient Corinth & Isthmus Canal for two couples. Our guide was Yannis who had degrees in history and philosophy. I would book him again and suggest that others request him. He was that good. Personable, easy to understand and sensitive to the needs of our group. It was a full day packed with information, delivered in beautiful stories, shared in various locations around Corinth. I gained more insight from this tour than the previous two visits put together to Corinth. To top it off, we asked for a lunch recommendation and he took us to a delightful local restaurant right on the beach at the Aegean Sea! Could not have hoped for more from this day.

The day started with a pick up at our hotel- so convenient. We were so excited to tour ancient Corinth and experience where apostle Paul stood. Our private driver and guide was Peter. He was extremely knowledgeable in Paul’s history, shared with us Greek history which prepared us for the tour. (While driving) So it made the drive go by so fast. Peter was very kind, generous and was also interested in our country. (USA) Paul gave us time to have lunch before we headed back to Athens. On the way to Corinth we stopped at the canal, bridge, and then Acient Corinth. It was very memorable and a pleasant experience

The sites of ancient Corinth were incredible, but Peter’s warmth, professionalism, generosity, and genuine care made this one of the most memorable days of our entire trip to Greece.
