Overview

Every week Art and Walk guides you through a forest path to the Agia Kyriaki church overlooking the Aegean sea. The walk starts in Pigadia at the taxi-station where we take the stairs up to a beautiful viewpoint of Pigadia. Along the way you can spot an ancient temple, see old stavlos (old Greek stables), smell the scent of pine trees and local herbs of Karpathos, have a peek inside the Agia Kyriaki church and enjoy gorgeous views of the nearby villages and the sea.

What you'll do

Start your day the Karpathian way: early, fresh, and full of light. Meet your guide at 8:30am at the Alpha Bank (old taxi station) in Pigadia, and step out before the summer heat settles in. Within minutes, the town slips behind you and the path begins to climb—past old stavlos and silvery olive fields, with the Aegean glittering beside you. As you gain height, the view opens wider and wider, revealing Pigadia from above and the southern villages scattered along the coastline like small white brushstrokes. Your destination is the peaceful Agia Kyriaki chapel, usually open for a visit. It’s a perfect spot to pause in the shade, take in the scenery, and enjoy a quiet moment away from the bustle. From here, the walk continues through a pine forest where the air turns cooler and resin-scented. Between the trees, you’ll catch repeated “wow” views of the eastern coast—blue water, rugged hills, and Pigadia unfolding below. By late morning you’ll be back in town at around 11:30am, with salty air in your lungs, photos on your phone, and that satisfying post-walk glow. What to expect: Duration: ~3.5 hours (8:30–11:30) Distance: 7 km Elevation gain: +330 m

Walk to Agia Kiriako church

Today, we had the pleasure of joining a beautifully organized walk on the stunning island of Karpathos, guided by Renate from Art & Walk. Renate's knowledge of the area, combined with her warm and engaging personality, made the experience truly unforgettable. She expertly led us through the island's hidden gems, sharing fascinating insights along the way. Her passion for the island and attention to detail ensured that everyone in the group felt included and inspired. I highly recommend joining one of Renate's tours if you're looking to explore Karpathos in a unique and meaningful way.

Friendly professionalism

This was more than a walk with a professional tour guide. Renate not only knows all about everyday life in Karpathos, herbs, diving, Karpathian history and culture. She is 100 % committed in a warm and friendly way and so eager to make you understand Karpathos. I strongly recommend you to take part of what Art and Walk offers. You might even end up drinking sage tea with new friends next to the prettiest greek church!

Challenging and very nice walk

We were lucky to have this walk alone with Renate, just the three of us. It was a very nice walk/climb up the mountain and into the forrest. Renate tells a lot of interesting facts about the nature and the island. And she is also very interested in hearing about you. We enjoyed every moment, even though it was quite a challenging walk. Sticks are needed!
